3 Ways to Improve Customer Search Bar Satisfaction on Automotive Websites

Over the past several years, consumers have been using more and more web based platforms to shop for the goods and services that they require. Paralleling this shift has been one towards users frequenting websites from their phones and other mobile devices. Other than a phone’s original purpose of keeping in contact with people, they are most frequently used to browse the internet. Now, it is twice as important that your company’s website translate well onto mobile devices.

One feature that is important that often gets hidden when sites reconfigured to fit mobile screens is the search bar. If the search bar is hidden or hard to access, consumers will leave your site. This reduces the time that a consumer would spend on your site, costing you potential business. There are several ways to fix this issue if your mobile sites are having this problem.

1) Identify it With an Icon

There are different symbols that when you see them, you automatically associate it with a word or action. The magnifying glass is one of these icons. When users see this icon they know it is a search bar. However, it can be very difficult for users if you hide your search bar behind this icon. Icon-only search increases your cost of interaction. The more steps it takes for the customer to find what they are looking for, the more likely they are to leave your site.

2) Make it Visible

A hidden search bar has its place, however, a mobile site is not one of them. Your search bar needs to be easily visible. Users should not have to take extra actions to find the information they need. This is especially true if the primary function of your site is search. Your search bar should be located at the top of the page, with a magnifying glass in the left-hand corner of the search bar. Taking these steps will make your site more user-friendly.

3) Auto-suggest Options

One last recommended feature for your search bars is auto-suggestions. It is important that your search bar provides suggestions for your users as they are typing. Usually, these suggestions start appearing directly below the search bar after the user has typed as few as three letters. This allows the users to quickly find what they are looking for while putting in minimal effort.

These are a few of the ways that you can make sure that your users have a quick and enjoyable searching experience on your site. Just remember to keep it simple, always have your search bar displayed, and set up auto-suggest.
